A new diamond anvil cell
17 June 2024. Our new diamond anvil cell was delivered!
Our new diamond anvil cells were finally delivered! We wanted to have a new type of diamond anvil cell, a D-DAC or dynamic diamond anvil cell.
Diamond anvil cells are high-pressure devices to explore behaviours under high pressure: materials, minerals, fundamental physics, chemistry, biology, etc. Pressures of 100 to 200 GPa can be achieved regurlary, with record pressures of well over 500 GPa, more than the pressure at the center of the Earth. The operation of the diamond anvil cell relies on a simple principle that pressure is a force divived by the aear of application. With diamonds of 100 μm culets, extreme pressure can be reached by applying a reasonable force in the back of the anvil, which is 1 or 2 mm diameter.
The D-DAC or dynamic diamond anvil cell is a extension of the diamond anvil cell, in which pressure is driven by a piezo meter, allowing either fastly increasing or oscillating pressures in experiments.
Our new devices were designed and built by BETSA, a French supplier with a long-standing experience in supporting the French high pressure community. Let's get working now!
