Experiments
March 2025. We are at the ID27 beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility.
This week, Hélène Ginestet, Sébastien Merkel, and Benjamin Montoud Ehrmann are at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility. We are performing experiments at the ID27 beamline.
The beamline provides a dedicated layout for in-situ X-ray diffraction combined with laser-heating and diamond anvil cells. Diamond anvil cells generate the pressures of the Earth's inner core. Lasers heat the samples to a few thousands of degrees. X-ray diffraction is used to probe the state of matter under such conditions.
Iron alloys, laser heating, microstructures... Let's try to see what is happening to iron deep beneath our feet!
