October 2024 - Léo and Hélène attended the Solid Earth Doctoral School in Les Houches, France

The Solid Earth Doctoral School is held every year in Les Houches, in the French Alps, in early October. This doctoral school trains PhD and Master students by covering most aspects of Solid Earth sciences, including seismology, mineralogy, geodynamics, geophysics and geochemistry. The school lasts for two weeks and welcomes students trained in geology, physics, chemistry, mathematics or computer science who are interested in the interior of the Earth.

This year's program was organized by Guillaume MORARD from Paris, Stéphanie DURAND from Lyon, Carmen SANCHEZ-VALLE from Münster, and Renaud DEGUEN in Grenoble. It included an opening seminar by Denis Andrault, followed by classes on geochemistry by Ingrid Blanchard and Andreas Stracke, mineralogy by Carmen Sanchez and Marta Pamato, planetology by Doris Breuer and Guillaume Morard, seismology by Amir Khan and Carl Martin, mantle dynamics by Juliane Dannberg and Maelis Arnould, and core dynamics by Nicolas Gillet and Johannes Wicht.

Léo and Hélène attended the full two weeks to learn about deep Earth geophysics. They are now back in the lab, getting ready for new crazy experiments!
