The Science for a changing Planet program at Univ. Lille involves 9 specialist master’s degrees and 22 research laboratories addressing research topics such as atmospheric science, palaeontology, biology, materials science, and chemistry, with the following global objectives: understand and monitor global changes, seeking alternative solutions to the exploitation of fossil resources, and evaluating the impact on Earth, people and societies.
The Inaugural Day for 2024 cohort of Mater student was held on Sep. 24 and S. Merkel and H. Ginestet were asked to provide a general presentation on how concepts and tools of materials science can be used to model and understand natural objects such as the Earth's inner core, within the context of the HotCores project.
The presentation was an opportunity to show how transverse knowledge and competences can help scientific disciplines moving forward in their respective fields and how students can benefit from input of diverse backgrounds.
