Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior
June/July 2026. S. Merkel and L. Carin are in Australia for SEDI 2026
SEDI is an international scientific organisation dedicated to the Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior. The ultimate goal of SEDI is an enhanced understanding of the past evolution and current thermal, dynamical and chemical state of the Earth’s deep interior and of the effect that the interior has on the structures and processes observed at the surface of the Earth.
The SEDI symposium is held every two years, and the 2026 edition is held 29 June - 3 July 2026 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The 5 days-long 2026 SEDI symposium addresses various topics, including composition, structure and dynamics of the inner and outer core, the geodynamo and the magnetic field secular variations, the core cooling, the core-mantle boundary region, the lower mantle structure, composition and dynamics as well as the nature and location of deep geochemical reservoirs.
Leo Carin and Sébastien Merkel are present with two posters on First results for experiments on inner core attenuation and New explorations of iron and iron alloys under extreme conditions at the European XFEL.
